J.Phlip
J.Phlip
Jessica Phillippe is diehard, born with true grit and skills to pay the bills. Despite her success with the Dirtybird gang, she's still out there in record stores on the regular... digging, uncovering precious gems and weaving them into her dynamic sets with panache. She's a hard-working, dedicated lady who refuses to compromise and aims to rock the dancefloor without relying on the most obvious tracks. Production-wise she's just as fearsome, lacing her tracks with a tough yet bouncy flavour. Her prowess in both disciplines combined with her infectious sense of fun and mind-boggling depth of knowledge make her one of the most revered DJs on the global circuit today.

Ever since the purchase of a cheap set of belt-drive decks and a mixer on her 19th birthday she really hasn't looked back and, after completing her studies in Engineering, the straight-A student jumped head first into her true passion, music. She won a DJ competition in 2005, toured the USA and moved from her hometown, Champaign, Illinois, to the birthplace of house music, Chicago. In the Windy City she endured the struggle that many musicians go through on their pathway to glory but never lost sight of her dream. A move to San Francisco resulted in more hard times, but it wasn't long before her determination and natural talent won through.

Phlip's refusal to give up eventually led her to connect with the Dirtybird crew and make some real progress. Club and festival tours are now a regular occurrence while releases on Claude VonStroke's highly respected imprint, and elsewhere too, have established her as a reputable source of dancefloor killers. People from Skream and Tiga to techno dons Surgeon and Dave Clarke and a bunch of other influential heads threw their weight behind her first truly analogue workout, 'Coefficient', while her latest tech-heavy banger 'Say My Name', which is has been doing immense damage to clubs all over the world, has peaked the interest of Eats Everything, Danny Daze and Huxley on the floor, and taking to the airwaves courtesy of B.Traits, Monki and 1 xtra’s MistaJam . All that hard work has put her up there with the industry's female elite; Nina Kraviz, Heidi, Maya...

Go hear J.Phlip in action and you can expect to experience a full booty workout and have your mind blown. You'll be surprised, energised and occasionally weirded out. This is a lady who knows her stuff, yet continues to refine her craft. Her aim is dancefloor lobotomy, all the while taking the greatest pleasure in seeing the people get loose. A DJ not afraid to put her vision out there, Jess is to thank for passing Eats Everything’s mighty “Entrance Song” to Voitek and Greg (Catz n Dogz) at Pets and the later introduction to Barclay (Claude VonStroke) and Dirtybird. She's embarked on several tours of Europe and the US, attracting an ever-growing fanbase with each electrifying performance. Spending 3 years living and DJing in Berlin has helped Phlip to gain an understanding of the European market – she was only supposed to be there for 5 months, but ya know, there's some kind of time warp in Berlin that does that to people.

2014 already involves more action than a James Bond movie with another tour of Europe in full swing, dates all over the United States including three residencies: Detroit, Miami and San Fransisco – plus there's plenty more production work in the pipeline. Hold tight for yet more analogue awesomeness.

Don't take our word for it, go check her out yourselves... and be prepared to lose it. That's what's up.
Defunk
Defunk
Hailing from Calgary, Canada, Defunk has taken funky bass music to a whole new level. Most popularly known for his attention of bringing elements of funk, jazz and blues into heavy bass music, he constantly strives to develop new sounds with new elements based around the idea of groove. Sexy sounds, funky rhythms, dirty drops, disco dancing, jazzy solos, and intriguing instruments can all be found in his catalogue. His intention is to constantly push the limit on what bass music is viewed as while still keeping the elements that make you want to dance.
Orphic
Orphic
Joel Jakub (aka “Orphic”) is an up and coming producer from Detroit living in Venice Beach, California. He is the newest member on the Take Back the Night Productions' roster and his mission is to blend the passionate yet alien sounds of bass music into a funky stew of delicious melodies reminiscent of the musical bloom of Motown as experienced from another planet. It’s like listening to Stevie Wonder through a kaleidoscope. His unique, groovy sound is sure to revolutionize the way people define “EDM”. He pushes the parameters of genre barriers, and doesn’t limit his creativity to a specific style or BPM. Orphic’s compositions are sure to get any dance floor moving and every booty bouncin’, and are diverse enough to span all age ranges and genre preferences. Fractal Beach, Orphic’s newest release and first full album, that was released on February 24 on Adapted Records, sends you to another planet where only good vibes and funky grooves exist. If you would like to be taken on a psychedelic journey through space and time, this is for you. Welcome to a new era of music.
Sepehr
Sepehr
Booming 808s fueled the day parties and weekend festivals spread across the San Francisco Bay Area that were Sepehr's stomping grounds. Driven by a desire to better understand this energy, he would dive deep into the underground culture of warehouses and sweaty basements pulsing to the beat of an even more evocative sound.

With this new world came a swell of knowledge that evolved Sepehr's sonic understanding. Intertwining this new foundation with past influences ranging from hip hop to post-hardcore allowed him to construct a sound all his own. His productions and DJ sets have synthesized the subtle nuances of minimal, the primal atmosphere of techno, and the ghetto sleaze of booty.

Sepehr has found his place whether it be on one of countless top 10 charts compiled by world class artists or on a festival stage in South America. His plethora of inspirations and ideas have already caused heads to turn globally, and will come together to shake dance floors for years to come alongside his seabound friends and family, Tech Dolphin.

DJ Centipede of Mophono
DJ Centipede of Mophono
Mophono, who set out to master the machines that threatened to be the masters of men, was born in 1976 in the Bay Area. From his early childhood he showed a strong passion for science, math and music. He was to be an inventor/engineer, but music had the greater gravitational pull, and he finally devoted himself to electronic music.
Mophono aka DJ Centipede wanted “to take the mystery out of the legend that says electronic music is an art that is esoteric, exclusively reserved for a few initiates, an elite of avant-garde intellectuals and artists” he adds “it deserves to be raised to the level of popular music, a music designed for fun and relaxation” and so Circuit studios was born in Lower Haight, San Francisco for the experimental researches of Thug Jazz and Dirt Wave.
While electronic and sample based music matured In the nineties, so did Mophono’s career as the most successful experimental electronic dance music DJ in the bay area. Booked at many of the underground raves until April of 1998 when one Oakland warehouse dance floor collapsed during one of his epic DJ sets, ending an era and starting a new one. DJ Centipede aka Mophono then focused his attention on the growing bay area beat scene, perfected his production and beat juggling skills while promoting San Francisco’s most forward thinking events.
Since then Mophono has released two full length albums and a slew of singles giving birth to two new genre’s Thug Jazz and Dirt Wave and a new standard in the record industry called Skip on Beat.
Inspired by 60’s psyche and experimental electronic music, Mophono Is known for his destructive drum breaks and heavy and orchestral instrumental compositions. With his legendary weekly “Change the Beat” party in San Francisco, Mophono is so deep in the beat culture melting pot he is stirring it. Performing live at the Brainfeeder festival (Flying Lotus brain child) with long time partner Gaslamp Killer and sharing the stage with DJ Shadow Amon Tobin, Edan, DJ Food, DJ Krush, Dabrye, Diplo and De La Soul with his Skip on Beat records, drum machines and moogs, Mophono intends to set a new standard in live electronic music performance.
Motion Potion
Motion Potion
MoPo is a master craftsman and his building material is the world’s most precious commodity: TIME. Consider yourself fortunate If you get a chance catch a Motion Potion DJ set these days. An enormous amount of thought, planning, and scheming has to occur to make them happen. MoPo approaches his shows like a college professor, or a football coach, putting hours of preparation and thought into exactly who will be listening, and how exactly to reach into their souls. Every set is different, and each can unfold in hundreds of different ways, and this intense focus on preparation makes him so versatile, so intense, and so much damn fun. These are “DJ sets” in the classic sense, unfolding like poems with every song a word and every mix or drop a bit of punctuation. Once known as the “DJ for people who hate DJ’s” it would be more accurate to say that this is the DJ for those who love live music.
