The Music
We consider ourselves extremely fortunate to make our living promoting the arts and producing entertainment events. HUSH concerts began in 1998 as Sunset Promotions; founded by John Miles and Robbie Kowal to bring New Orleans musicians to San Francisco. Over the years, that mission expanded to funk, soul, hip hop, world music, djs and eventually the whole of dance-music culture as we now know it. We never saw a difference between the DJ and live music worlds. To us, all those genre-divisions dissolve the second you get folks on the dance floor. Thus we were far ahead of the curve in the world of live electronic music, and multi-genre festivals. North Beach Jazz was a jazz fest for people who liked to dance. SF Funk Fest was a celebration of art, film, and culture as much as music. Ghost Ship and Sea of Dreams have become the standards for the inclusion of art into music events. Silent Frisco was an attempt to bring the world of indoor entertainment back outside and protect free expression. Long before James Murphy sang βWe traded our guitars for turntables and we traded our turntables for guitarsβ β Sunset Promotions was encouraging our artists to do exactly that.

We take our commitment to the artists that choose to work with us VERY SERIOUSLY. There is nothing more precious than the inspiration that comes through an artists soul, and being tasked with helping them to present it to the world is a solemn responsibility. Thus we are very selective in those with whom we will work and sadly are forced to turn many an able applicant away. Once we agree to work with an artist, we try to help them (and their management) to view their development strategically, often looking 3-4 performances down the road so as best to build success upon success. This approach has seen us assist in dozens of acts moving from tiny clubs all the way to huge theaters and festivals, with (Sunset Promotions, SunsetSF, Silent Frisco, and now) HUSHconcerts as an able partner and supporter every step of the way.
