Silent Frisco at Treasure Island Music Festival

October 13, 2012 @ 12:00 am PDT

Silent Frisco is a crew of San Francisco sonic missionaries dedicated to turning impossible situations into musical magic. We specialize in enabling performances in public spaces where ‘noise’ has previously made such performances impractical or illegal. By using our custom ‘Silent Frisco’ wireless headphones, the music can play while neighbors enjoy peace and quiet. Once one removes ‘noise’ from the equation, public music gatherings can be seen for what they truly are: an unalienable civil right.

We are based in San Francisco but have traveled far and wide to bring this unique performance technology to happy listeners. Among the events that either Silent Frisco, or our founder Robbie ‘MoPo’ Kowal have performed at are Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, Treasure Island Music Festival, Electric Forest, Camp Bisco, Earthdance, Harmony Festival, Gathering of the Vibes, Sea of Dreams NYE, and Ghost Ship Halloween. We’ve put music on Ocean Beach in San Francisco, Miami Beach in Florida, and Town Beach in Bridgeport Connecticut. We helped to revive legendary outdoor artspaces the Silo in Houston and Austin Enchanted Forest. In 2010, Silent Frisco conceieved and executed the ‘Silent Soundclash Tour’ the nation’s first Silent Disco club tour. Show us a place where ‘music Is not allowed’ and we will show you how to get make it happen.Anthony Mansfield has been on a 20-year journey through the world of psychedelic dance music ever since attending the now-legendary full moon massives of San Francisco’ s Wicked Crew in the early 90’ s. Anthony spent the rest of the decade in New York, spreading the gospel of deep house across the Empire State with a late- night radio show, his 8-year-running weekly, and the countless underground parties that gave birth to his own crew, HectorWorks Soundsystem. After an exhausting and debaucherous 2-year run as GM, talent booker, and resident DJ at upstate’ s largest live music venue, The Odyssey, Anthony was ready to return to San Francisco. Anthony hit the West Coast running in 2001, joining his old friend DJ M3 as resident DJ and co-promoter of the infamous Green Gorilla Lounge in a string of successful weekly club nights, true seat-of-your-pants underground parties, and blown- out monthly events across the Bay Area, with some of the city’ s and world’ s best names in dance music. Anthony has left his mark on Burning Man for the last decade as well, at the Space Lounge, Green Gorilla, and Disco Knights sound camps, with a trail of exhausted dancers and party people in the wake of his many epic sets on the Playa. Anthony has been producing his own particular brand of dance music since his first release on Rong Records in ’ 04 with Ben Cook as “ Barfly”. Quickly moving to found his own label, Hector Works, in 2005 with NYC deep-house production wizard Nick Chacona, Anthony has worked with Garth, Tal M. Klein, Sneak-E Pete, M3, and others in the last five years, releasing tracks on Gomma, Moodmusic, Aniligital, and Om Records. His tunes have received nods (and plays) from some of the world’ s top DJs, including Dimitri from Paris, Harvey, Greg Wilson, Doc Martin, Idjut Boys, Ivan Smaggle, The Revenge, Pete Herbert, and Playgroup. Camped out in his room at Moulton Studios, Anthony is currently hard at work on the 19th release for Hector Works, and looking forward to taking a break for the Treasure Island Music Festival!DJ Mancub is an underground legend. The Prince and Michael Experience is meant to celebrate the music of two of the biggest pop cultural icons of our generation – a celebration carried out with love and mutual respect for both artists.

The music is far from the only thing happening at this party. There’s theme dancing, a face-off between guests repping The Purple One or The King of Pop, and much, much more. This is the perfect night out to lounge with your friends, make some new friends, get your drink on, dance your ass off, and have the time of your life. Prince and Michael Jackson fans go toe-to-toe on the dance floor as DJ Dave Paul from San Francisco mixes album cuts, remixes, rare tracks, and hits from the two artists.

Dave Paul began his music career in 1984, starting as a mobile DJ and evolving into a prominent college radio and club DJ remixer in San Francisco. During the late ’80s and early ’90s, his weekly radio show Beat Box Fridays on college radio station KCSF was instrumental in breaking many hip-hop records in the Bay Area market. Utilizing various pseudonyms, Paul has produced records and created the world’s first scratch tool for digital DJs, The Ultimate Scratch CD. In 1991 he launched the now-legendary publication The Bomb Hip-Hop Magazine, and in 1995 he transformed the magazine into a record label. The label’s Return of the DJ series was ranked by Spin Magazine as No. 25 in its 90 Greatest Albums of the ’90s list. Paul has been featured in URB Magazine and XLR8R, has appeared on the front cover of Billboard, and was featured in the motion picture Scratch (2001). He has DJed throughout the US, toured Europe and the UK, released over 100 projects on his record label, and currently produces themed DJ parties, including the Prince and Michael Experience, which has been packing houses for a decade.Shouts! is a project by San Francisco bass music producer Jason C Apple.
